Everton have been a disaster on and off the pitch for years, and there doesn’t appear to be much light at the end of the tunnel.
The Toffees now have the no-nonsense Sean Dyche in charge, having helped the club avoid Premier League relegation this season.
However, Everton were fortunate to have Carlo Ancelotti as their manager from December 2019 until May 2021.
Yes, fast forward to the present day, and the famous coach has won his fourth Champions League title as manager.
Real Madrid defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Saturday to win their 15th European title and Ancelotti’s seventh overall, as a player and manager.
It’s an incredible accomplishment for the 64-year-old, proving that he will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
Jamie Carragher discussed his legacy and how he is a’special man’ and a ‘famous figure’ in the game during an interview with CBS Sports on Paramount+ (01/06/24 @ 10:10 pm).
The former Liverpool player recalled how, at Everton, ‘many had written him off’ and believed that ‘he wasn’t going to come back at that level’.
Ancelotti finished in the top half with the Merseyside club, the last time they did so, and Carragher believes he is back to his best.
Carlo Ancelotti helps Real Madrid win another Champions League final.
“He is (a special man),” Carragher stated. “I believe he is the first person to have participated in seven European Cup-winning finals as both a manager and a player.
“No one can kind of beat it. He is simply a renowned person in the game. People wrote him off a few years ago, believing he would never return to the top level. After leaving Everton, he eventually ended up at Real Madrid.
“I’ve said this before. There are two guys there. Zidane and Ancelotti. We don’t talk about these individuals as tacticians, like Klopp or Guardiola. But they are ideal managers for Real Madrid. They need that kind of manager. This is why they’ve been so successful.
They’ve got the best players. You simply place them in the appropriate position; you do not need to offer them too much information. You simply need a style or an approach. It’s what makes this team function. Keep them happy. You see the system that Real Madrid use. It’s not very conventional for most teams, but it suits the clubs and players they have, and when Mbappe arrives next season, they may do something different.”
Carlo Ancelotti is one of the finest ever!
It is unusual for someone to be a great manager and a great player at the same time. You can be one of the two.
After achieving success in Serie A with AS Roma, he went on to win the title and two European Cups with AC Milan before becoming a manager.
Those trophies have continued, with him winning the double while at Chelsea in 2009/10.
The epitome of a true all-around great, and perhaps, for some, the best manager in the world now.
