Ravens Free Agency Rumors: Derrick Henry, RB, is expected to receive an offer
The Baltimore Ravens could see a significant amount of upheaval prior to the start of the upcoming season, which they are hoping will see head coach John Harbaugh win the Lombardi Trophy following his team’s victory in Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. Running backs Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins, who were their top two backs in the previous campaign, are probably gone. Since quarterback Lamar Jackson joined the team in 2018, the Ravens have only had one back after a 1,000-yard season due to their “running back by committee” mindset from previous seasons.
There are feature backs available through free agency if they choose to forgo that strategy. Derrick Henry, an eight-year veteran who has played his whole career for the Tennessee Titans, is among the most well-known players available. The former Alabama back seems to have a lot left in the metaphorical running back tank, despite having played in eight seasons with a heavy workload.
According to Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report, Baltimore is expected to make Henry an offer of $20 million for two years. For Henry, who just finished a $12.5 million season in Tennessee, it would be a salary decrease. Henry ran for 1,167 yards on 280 runs and 12 touchdowns in the previous campaign. While it is possible that the Titans’ offensive line had a poor season, his lifetime average of 4.7 yards per carry was lower last year at 4.2.
Henry’s projected market value for a one-year contract is $10.3 million, according to Spotrac.com, which would provide a challenge for Baltimore considering its existing cap space.
Henry would have adequate support in the form of Justice Hill and Keaton Mitchell, who are scheduled to return. In 2024, Derrick Henry might be the next “King” in town, if the Ravens are interested.
